Children's STAR Class

The STAR Class provides answers to questions like – what is a funeral anyway? In this class, we will answer questions about death and give children a chance to write a message to their loved one on star shaped paper. Questions about death will lead to some of the most difficult and emotional moments parents can face. Educating the youngest generation of your family about death will change their view of life.

Art Linkletter coined the phrase " Kids say the darndest things." As in life, kids say the darndest things and have a lot of questions about death. If the questions about the birds and the bees make parents uncomfortable, questions about death will lead to some of the most difficult and emotional moment's parents can face. The STAR Class help's children learn about death and funerals and teaches practical ways for each interested child to participate.

The STAR Class is usually provided during the first 25 minutes of the Private Family viewing. By directing the children to the STAR Class, parents are free to express emotions and thoughts they might otherwise be uncomfortable showing. Once they join their parents, each child will bring a craft (gift) they have specially made. Psychologically, this gift is known as a transitional object, providing the child the security of a familiar object when first entering the viewing room. Some children will immediately walk up to the casket and share what they just learned, others will be more reserved. Grief and it's expression will be as individual as the child. The STAR Class provides an opportunity for them to actively participate in remembering and celebrating with their family.

Dove Release Program

The White Dove, with its strong religious meaning, can be a moving part of any service. Studies show that it is part of the human condition to look down when we are sad, limiting light to our eyes, and this affects how we feel. When a dove is released, everyone follows the dove as it ascends, flooding the eye with the sun’s bright light. The light to our eyes provides us with gentle light therapy which has the ability to improve the way we feel.

Butterfly Release

The butterfly is a symbol of rebirth and new life. In June of each year, our funeral home invites the families that we have served to a ceremony that honors those who have passed away in the last year.

Video Tribute

“A picture says a thousand words”. Pictures can tell a life story. Using photos provided by you and your family, we produce a video program accompanied by music that spans the life of your loved one. In 2000 when we began producing video tributes it was an innovation; today it’s a tradition.

Limousine

Chauffeured state car seating seven people from the family home to the service and concluding at the luncheon.

Early in December, the McGuinness Family extends an invitation to those who have lost a loved one in the past year to gather and celebrate the life and remember the significance of their loved one. Each family is presented with a personalized snowflake ornament that may be displayed on the family Christmas tree commemorating the life of their loved one.

Estate Auction Appraisal

A certified appraiser will be available to assist each family. The appraiser and auctioneer will spend up to an hour viewing home and property contents. Using his expertise, he will offer suggestions to assist each family.
