Philabundance Camp Out for Hunger
Sep, 04 2017 9am - 4:45pm

Camp Out for Hunger is in its 20th year, and its goal is to raise as much food as possible to help feed more than 750,000 hungry people in the Delaware Valley. While 1 in 7 people in the US face hunger, the number is almost double that in our area, with 1 in 4 people not knowing where their next meal will come from. Preston & Steve, 93.3 WMMR radio personalities, started "camping out" in 1998 in the parking lot of the Adam's Mark Hotel on City Line Avenue to collect food and give back to their community. The result: 2,000 pounds of food. Now, 20 years later, it is Philabundance's largest food drive each year AND the country's largest single-location food drive! In 2015, Camp Out fans and partners donated more than 1,000,000 pounds--equaling more than 1,000,000 meals to help feed our neighbors in need! Philabundance is the region's largest hunger relief organization, serving more than 90,000 people per week--30% of whom are children and 15% are seniors--in Western Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Salem counties. It distributes food directly to people in need through its own programs and a network of approximately 350 agencies, including food cupboards, pantries, and shelters. Hunger hits every zip code, including yours. You can help us help Philabundance by donating one or more of the most needed items to our continuous food drive: creamy peanut butter, canned/shelf-stable meats, shelf stable white milk, canned beef stew, canned chili, breakfast cereal or hot cereal, nuts/trail mix, whole wheat pasta, brown rice, jelly (plastic containers only), canned fruits and vegetables. Bring your donations to our Washington Twp. location--573 Egg Harbor Road, Sewell--between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Elisha Elliott, Community Outreach Director, at 856-582-3800 or email elisha.elliott@mcgfuneral.com. Read More
