Veterans Day Essay Contest

McGuinness Community Care presents a Veterans Day Essay Contest 2017 Theme is “Why is Veterans Day Important?” Student Entry Deadline: November 2, 2017 The Rules: The McGuinness Funeral Home Veterans Day Essay Contest is open to students in grades 5 through 12 who are enrolled in a public, private, or parochial high school or home study program in the Gloucester County area. What Do I Need to Enter? Submit a typed, double-spaced, 11 point font, essay describing why Veterans Day is important to you, to your family, and/or to America. Essays should be 3 pages but no longer than 5 pages long. You must be the sole author of your essay and it must be in English. The body of the essay must not identify you in any way, although it should be labeled with your name to show ownership. Where Do I Submit My Entry? All entries must be submitted to McGuinness Funeral Home, attn.: Elisha Elliott, 573 Egg Harbor Road, Sewell, NJ 08080 no later than Thursday, November 2 at 4:00 p.m. Please call 856-582-3800 for more information. What Are the Judging Criteria? Originality is worth 35 points—Treatment of the theme should show imagination and human interest. Content is worth 35 points—Clearly express your ideas in an organized manner. Fully develop your theme and use transitions to move smoothly from one idea to another. Spelling and Grammar are worth 30 points—Proper use of grammar and correct spelling and punctuation are crucial in communicating your ideas. LifeSteps Workshops

The unique 5-week LifeSteps workshops afford the surviving spouse, companion, parent, child, sibling, or friend of someone who has passed on the opportunity to come together with others who have experienced loss, in a small group setting. LifeSteps™ is a set of five weekly workshops designed to encourage healing for those who have lost a loved one. In this small group setting, we will share practical tips and expert advice on healing through your own journey through grief. Pet therapy is available during each workshop courtesy of FurEver as Friends. Participants have found these workshops to be therapeutic and helpful on their journey to their “new normal.” Where are the workshops held? Pet Loss Remembrance

Pet Loss Remembrance Pet families grieving the loss of a beloved companion animal can participate in a memorial service on Thursday, September 21 at 7:00 p.m. at McGuinness’ Washington Twp. location—573 Egg Harbor Road. Please bring a photo of your pet to be remembered for a very special tribute. The program will feature guest speaker, Kathryn Jennings, CPLP, CPFE, President & Founder, Day By Day Pet Caregiver Support All guests will personalize a river rock in their pets’ name to place in our new Pet Memorial Garden and each guest will receive a special gift from Day by Day.
